David,

Awesome summary and thank you for taking the time to share it with everyone.

It sounds like a number of people you talked to would sign document if they knew about it :

"Zeta Alliance Findings and Recommendations" : https://goo.gl/WYfRI3

Do you need any help with contacting/following up with those that attended to make sure they join the Zeta Alliance mailing lists and maybe attend the Thursday conference call? Do you think we should do something unique for France - a different conference call time? A "french" mailman list? I haven't seen any sign ups the last couple of days to the mailing lists we do have.

Also, I can post your presentation in our google share if you would like?

You wrote: Questions about the Zeta Alliance were about:
. how to stay independent while supported by Synacor
Ajcody: This will come up with our discussions around our "legal setup" options and how representation is configured.

. the legal status of the Alliance ("users group?", "association?", "users club?", "something else?") (*)
Ajcody: Non-profit community alliance is how I describe it now. Once we move forward with Synacor on discussions around Zeta Alliances legal setup options, it might change a little - for example, if we go with an umbrella organization. I'm hoping we can kick of this discussion at the NYC COMMIT conference.

. where do I sign (the charter and/or another official paper) to be part of the Alliance and join the forces/give our support (*)
Ajcody: For now, it's as easy as joining the mailing lists [users@ devel@] and attending the Thursday conf call if possible. Also, signing our new "Zeta Alliance Findings and Recommendations" document. We can also adjust the home page to allow new "signers" of the Charter if you think it's needed. http://www.zetalliance.org/the-zeta-alliance-charter

. can we contribute (as VAR/BSP) and give the Alliance our own bits of development/scripting so other people can use it (and we can use other people's)
Ajcody: All code/dev issues probably should goto devel@ list or directly to Barry.

Thanks again,
Adam

Hi guys,

I'm on the train back home.

The Zeta Alliance presentation went extremely well.
20-30 peoples were here, mostly VARs/BSPs and some ZCS admins of "big" platforms (>100'000 accounts - I guess some university).

The presentation was one of the first in the afternoon, the "official" Synacor presentations happened in the morning.

The overall audience return was "I'm glad this presentation happened, it's the most re-insuring and interesting since this morning: now we know there are people officially joining forces around ZCS to enforce the F/LOSS advocacy/movement and be heard by Synacor".

Eve of Synacor was in the room and ended up on stage with me for the Q/A session.
She took the bullets from the audience (8.6 end of support, 8.7 released while very buggy, no visible enhancements, bugzilla/JIRA, etc).
She acknowledged they did not do well for a couple of years, that F/LOSS was now really at the heart of their strategy for Zimbra and that they are very happy the Zeta Alliance exists so there's "someone" representing the community to talk to/exchange with.

Questions about the Zeta Alliance were about:
. how to stay independent while supported by Synacor
. the legal status of the Alliance ("users group?", "association?", "users club?", "something else?") (*)
. where do I sign (the charter and/or another official paper) to be part of the Alliance and join the forces/give our support (*)
. can we contribute (as VAR/BSP) and give the Alliance our own bits of development/scripting so other people can use it (and we can use other people's)

(*) these questions were asked by people representing big users platforms (university or public/gov, I don't know) who want to show officially they support the Alliance and are part of it.
Their idea seems to give the Alliance more weight/power in its communication by listing its members.

I also had a quite long exchange after the presentation with some guys who have Ideas/needs and money to spend on developments (zimlets) but don't know who to ask while they want to give the zimlets to the community (this seems to be a problem with some software company in France, both too expensive and not willing to dev for the community even if paid for it).

I saw Jorge but was unfortunately not able to meet/chat with him 8-/
Same for Erynn.

If I didn't live in Michigan, I would invest in some portal solar panels for these events. They happen a lot in Michigan because of the trees.
