You are welcome Marc, I'm glad to hear the call summaries are helpful. So far, I've seen only positive feedback on the call summaries both here on the Zeta mailing list & in the Zimbra Community forum (where the call summaries are also posted), so I'll keep using the same summary format unless someone suggests an improvement.

According to what John H. shared with us on the call, he said that it's actually Zimbra 8.x that Zimbra 9 shares 85% of its codebase with, rather than Zimbra X. From everything I've heard about Zimbra X over the last year or so, I have the impression that Zimbra X is a complete re-write of the codebase. I think the re-write is something that Rene led, when he was with Zimbra, as a necessary step to change from the current architecture to the microservice Docker container model that X uses. So, that would suggest that going from Zimbra 8 to 9 will be more of an incremental upgrade, rather than a major upgrade that going from Zimbra 9 to X will likely be. John's comments seemed to suggest that the focus for Zimbra 9 is on improving both the end user experience & the Zimlet architecture for developers, while there are little to no changes for administrators in version 9.

Thanks for pointing out the option to run both the new React UI & legacy UI in Zimbra 9. I overlooked mentioning that in the call summary write-up.

Hi Randy,

As always, thanks very much for writing up these summaries. Super useful.

I understood that the 9.0 backend contains much of the codebase as Zimbra X, but without all the container stuff. Come to think of it, I thought it was 85% but I also remember that being mentioned in relation to 8.8.x too, so now I'm a bit uncertain. Perhaps one to clarify on the next call, or we'll just have to be patient and wait for a release to investigate properly!

One other key point we talked about, which I think people will be keen to know, is that the new React UI will be able to co-exist with the legacy UI and be used simultaneously - e.g. 1 browser, 2 tabs, each logged into the same mailbox.
