Jorge noted that the title says RELEASE CANDIDATE, not GA!
We suggested a change in the download page, because as it was it seemed that 8.8 was GA, since 8.7.11 disappeared from the download page.

Jorge promptly updated the page, restoring the current stable download link and differentiating GA from RC releases.
